About Me
My name is Sardys Avile-Martinez, and I am proud to call Florida home. I was born in South America and bring with me a bilingual background in English and Spanish that has enriched both my academic journey and professional career. Today, I stand at the exciting crossroads of completing my Bachelor of Science in Information Science at the University of South Florida and expanding my professional path as a data engineer with Deloitte. My story is one of continuous growth, resilience, and a passion for using technology to create meaningful impact.

My primary areas of interest include data engineering, data analysis, predictive analytics, and data visualization. I thrive on uncovering patterns in data and transforming them into actionable insights that guide decision-making and solve complex problems. Over the past few years, I have also developed an interest in cybersecurity as part of building a well-rounded technical foundation. What excites me most is the opportunity to combine technical expertise with a human-centered approach, creating solutions that not only process information but also improve outcomes for the people who depend on them.

Throughout my BSIS program, I have connected theory with practice in powerful ways. Courses in R programming introduced me to building models, visualizing data with ggplot2, and creating interactive applications with Shiny. Python coursework expanded my problem-solving skills and provided new tools for working with data files, modules, and functions. Classes in Information Behavior and Information Architecture sharpened my understanding of how people seek, organize, and interpret information, knowledge that has proven valuable for both my professional projects and my blog. I also (recently) gained hands-on experience in predictive analytics, learning to evaluate models with metrics such as RMSE, MAE, and confusion matrices. These experiences have shaped me into a professional who not only understands technical tools but also the broader context of information use and impact.

In addition to academic achievements, I have developed a strong portfolio of skills and certifications. I am proficient in SQL, SSIS, Snowflake, SnowConvert, Azure Data Factory, Power BI, and Power Apps, while continually expanding my expertise in Python and R. I hold a Power BI certification and am currently pursuing additional credentials, including PL-300 (Power BI Data Analyst) and Snowflake certification. My strengths also include data wrangling, ETL processes, data warehousing, reporting optimization, and mentoring others. These reflect not only my technical foundation but also my commitment to staying current in a field that constantly evolves.

Professionally, I have built a career that balances deep technical expertise with leadership and mentoring. At Deloitte, I contribute to data engineering and migration projects, drawing on my experience as an ETL developer, BI consultant, and SQL specialist. I have managed complex migrations, optimized reporting, trained teams both locally and offshore, and created documentation that supports long-term success. Beyond the workplace, I share my learning journey through my blog, statandanalytics.com, where I reflect on new tools, projects, and insights in data science and analytics.

As I move forward, my vision is clear: I aim to continue growing as a senior-level technical professional, applying my skills to build efficient, reliable, and insightful solutions that drive value. My portfolio captures this journey, showcasing projects, skills, and reflections that represent not only what I have accomplished but also where I am headed. I invite you to explore my portfolio to see the intersection of my academic learning, professional achievements, and personal drive to innovate in the field of information science.
